Rochester Kink Society
Come Play With Us!
A Day in the Life
What it's like to attend a Workshop or demo
Ok, so you have come to a munch, or a social or maybe even both. You then took the plunge and came as a guest to a play party.
You're not quite sure yet that you want to join but you are leaning that way more and more.
You notice that there is a workshop coming up.
Hey it's on a topic you would really like to know more about.
You think to yourself, I wonder if I am allowed to go without
being a member yet?
.
The answer is yes... sort of.
If you haven't already attended an event at the space, you would still need to come to a munch or a social before the workshop.
If you haven't attended a munch or social yet, but maybe you have met a member, or someone on the board who is willing to sponsor you, then are allowed to come to the workshop as their guest.
If you've have already been to the space, you are welcome to come again alone.
Now, by bringing you as a guest, that doesn't mean that you physically have to come to the space with your sponsor, although many times the member will ask if you want to come together.
What it means is that the member has to let the Board know that they are bringing a guest at least 24 hours ahead of time.
So make sure you let them know enough in advance to allow them 24 hours to contact the board and get the ok to bring you.
Now what happens when you arrive?
Basically the same thing as a play party… you arrive at the space.
You ring the buzzer to gain entrance. When someone comes to open the door you announce who invited you (whose guest you are), and then you will be escorted into the RKS facility.
After you have passed through the large sliding door, you'll see a round table, someone will be sitting there to record your information and collect any fees owed. You may be asked to show your ID, so please have a valid picture ID ready the first few times you attend our space. You will be asked the first time you visit our space to fill out a guest waiver.
Workshop fees vary; typically they are $10 to $20. Please check the information for the particular event you are attending at www.rochesterkinksociety.com.
Once you have paid and information and signature are collected you can roam freely about the space.
Someone will generally show you around; either the person who brought you or someone the Board asks to give you a quick tour around the facility.
They will show you where the restroom is, the changing rooms, where to get drinks (non-alcoholic), as well as the dungeon, social areas, and of course the cool down area.
There will be people sitting in the social area, some dressed in fetish garb, some in street clothes. They can be talking anything from politics to single tails and everything in between. It's ok, they are harmless... they don't bite, that is of course, unless you like to be bitten then it becomes consensual LOL.
We try to keep idle chatter to a minimum and we use our
indoor voices
in the dungeon, even when it is not necessary
to do so, but especially during play.
Because this is a demo/workshop chances are you will not see any naked bodies sitting about, but you never know.
You see what looks to be the presenter and his/her assistant putting out thing on a table. There are couches and chairs facing the front where the table is, you can sit anywhere you like, but before you sit, you want to once again look around a bit.
You wander into the vault
which is a room off by itself
to the right of the main play space. In the vault is where most wax
play is done, any medical scenes, and sometimes it's used by people
who would rather not play in the large public area. It's a nice
area if you want a bit more privacy.
So you look around and you see the member who invited they are
waving you to come over. He/she says, It's almost time to start;
perhaps you will want to take a seat?
You both take a seat and
soon everyone is seated.
Someone starts passing a handout to each person present that outlines what the presentation will include. Then one of the RKS board members introduces the presenter.
The presenter gives a bit of background on themselves for instance, where they are from, how they got involved in the scene, what their qualifications are for the topic they are presenting.
Usually the presenter will invite the audience to ask questions during the talk, sometimes they may need quiet until they are done they will set the tone for how they wish to do their presentation.
You watch fascinated as the presenter and his assistant explain what they are doing. You think to yourself, wow I like that, but do people really do that?
You would like to ask questions, but don't really want to draw attention to yourself. That's ok.
When the presentation is over the audience is invited up to the table to view the toys/instruments.
When you approach the table you ask the questions you have, the presenter is very open and forthcoming with the answers. And it's good you ask your questions, because others wanted to ask but didn't and thanks to you, they now have a better idea too of how to do that or what is best to use.
Ok the presentation is over. Now what?
If you wish, you can come back for the play party at 8 PM. As a guest, you pay separate for the party afterward and you can choose if you want to return or not.
Some workshops run into the party. For example, the workshop may be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the party starts at 8 p.m. You may be asked when you first arrive if you are staying for one or both events. The door person will note it.
If you say no to the party and after the workshop you change your mind, that's okay too. Just let a board member or the person at the door know!
You elect not to stay this time, but now your mind is made up.
Next Step.....I'm ready to join RKS.
The End
